In a world turned upside down by digital technology, professional communicators are needed now more than ever.

The mission of the School of Communication is to educate professionals to a high level of excellence in the disciplines of human communication, ranging from human communicative interaction to digitally driven mass communication. The School’s goal is to educate individuals for strategic societal roles in the 21st century.

The vision of the School of Communication at Texas Southern University is to foster a collegial community of faculty, staff and students who collectively and individually strive for leadership, both academically and professionally, in the fields of communication, scholarship, education, and information services.

The school seeks to develop and evaluate programs that foster students’ ethical, social, professional, and intellectual development in the communication fields.

While nurturing students’ capacities to think creatively, skillfully, and critically, we also strive to deepen their commitment to social values such as kindness, helpfulness, personal responsibility, and respect for others. We subscribe to the belief that these qualities are essential to leading humane and productive lives in a democratic society.
